Final Assessment

Earth's Cycle Project
Final Assessment- Blog Post

Rock Cycle:

  • How does a metamorphic rock becomes a sedimentary rock?
  • Weathering breaks the rocks into smaller pieces called sediments and then compaction and cementation/compaction occurs which is turned to sedimentary rock.
  • How does magma change into a metamorphic rock?
  • The magma cools down, it turns to igneous rock. Igneous rock than change by heat and pressure to metamorphic rock.
Carbon Cycle:
  • How does a consumer becomes a fossil fuel?
  • By the process of decomposition
  • How can a fossil fuel be used in photosynthesis?
  • Factories burn fossil fuels and releases CO2 in the atmosphere. After that producers absorbs CO2 for photosynthesis.
Water Cycle:
  • How does lake water (liquid) turn into a cloud?
  • The water vapors from lakes goes into the atmosphere where gases condenses together and makes cloud.
  • How can a cloud turn into groundwater?
  • When precipitation fall onto the earth it creates run-off and when it reaches the ground the water is absorbed into the ground.
Part II: Essential Questions:
  • How are the rock, carbon and water cycles connected to the hydrosphere, lithosphere, atmosphere and biosphere?
1- Hydrosphere: Hydrosphere is the water found on Earth. Rock cycle is connected to Hydrosphere by weathering because it is the rain which helps the rock to break into sediments. Erosion moves the sediments into water or to another place. Carbon cycle is connected to Hydrosphere because producers need water for the process of photosynthesis to release oxygen which is consumed by consumers. Consumers also need water to survive. Hydrosphere is Water cycle because both has to do with water.

2- Lithosphere: Lithosphere is soil, ground, land etc on Earth. Rock cycle is connected to Lithosphere because rocks are made of soil. Magma is also found in Earth's surface. Sediments which are small pieces of rocks broken by the wind are also part of Lithosphere. Carbon cycle is connected to Lithosphere because fossil fuels and fossils are found under Earth. When the producer or consumer dies it also decomposes underground by decomposers. Water Cycle and Lithosphere are connected because the water run-off from mountain is on ground. When it reaches the down, the water is absorbed into the ground which is called infiltration. After that it becomes groundwater.

3- Biosphere: Biosphere is living things on Earth. Biosphere and Rock cycle are connected because when lava break out from the volcano, it burns the producers and consumers. Biosphere and Carbon cycle are connected because consumers releases carbon dioxide which can be used by producers in photosynthesis. Water cycle and biosphere are connected because precipitation provide water for organisms. Groundwater provides water to plants.

4- Atmosphere: Atmosphere is air and gases in the Earth. Rock cycle and atmosphere are connected to each other because the weathering happens in the atmosphere. When the  lava erupts  and releases gases in the atmosphere. Atmosphere and Carbon cycle connects to each other because the factories burn fossil fuels which is called CO2 emission. Producers releases oxygen in the atmosphere during photosynthesis. The consumers also releases carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Water cycle and atmosphere connects to each other because water vapors from lakes goes into atmosphere this process is called evaporation. The sunlight rays provide energy to plants to transpire which is called plant uptake. Plant releases CO2 in the atmosphere.

  • How are the three cycles connected to each other?
The water, carbon, and rock cycles connects to each other. The weathering/precipitation comes form the water cycle in rock cycle. The water for consumers comes from water cycle. Consumers releases CO2  in the atmosphere. It is used in photosynthesis to make energy in carbon cycle. The carbon dioxide is released by burning fossil fuels.

Extra Activities: Poem/Song

"Poem for Rock cycle"

Ooh I am just a rock, just a rock.
Whose ancestors came from volcano,
Where my family starts with magma and ends magma,
My family nomads,
Volcano shaked,
Magma shaked which changed to lava,
Ooh i am just a rock, just a rock.
Changing caused ancestors to form to igneous rock,
Fast wind broke the rocks into sediments,
After erosion, burial and compaction, turns to sedimentary rock,
After 100 years of pressure and chemical actions, turned to metamorphic rock,
Metamorphic rock heated which melted
And returned home underground,
Expanding my family throughout the world
I am just a rock..

Reflection:
1. How does sleep effect your learning?
2. How much sleep do you get each night? Do you think this is enough? Do you feel tired in the morning?
3. Will you change what you do after reading about sleep and learning? Why or why not?

Answers:

1: Sleep affect our learning and memory because sleep makes you more alert and active. If we don't get enough sleep, it results in poor marks, laziness and tiredness during the day.

2: I get around 10 hours of sleep each night. Yes, it is enough for me. I do not feel tired in the morning.

3: I will change my schedule and sleep early on weekends too because body's schedule is disturbed. Now that I know that my learning actually happens on night, I will get enough sleep.

Energy drinks

1. What is your opinion about energy drinks?

I think energy drinks are increasing health hazards. We should be careful what we consume. Energy drinks have a lot caffeine, sugar, guarana, and ginseng so it can cause high blood pressure, heart diseases.

2. What is an opposing argument than the one that you have been presented with? What would the drink makers say about this?

Opposing argument is that energy drinks are healthy for human body. The drink makers will make outer look of an energy drink as healthy as possible. They want their product look outstanding compared to others.

3. Will you drink them? Why or why not?

I do not drink energy drinks because they are not healthy for your body. It would not hurt you in the beginning but later it will turn to poison in our body.
